Cargo Overseas have been looking after shipments to Russia for over 20 years and it is the mainstay of our project cargo business. So in October 2011 I spent a week in the Mining capital of Siberia, Kemerovo meeting with customers and suppliers alike for our regular service discussions. Russia is a difficult place to do business with, with a set of rules and customs which is particular to Russia and individual regions within what is a vast country. We regularly assist other freight forwarders in the US and Europe with routing cargo into internal Russian destinations whilst not falling foul of russian customs formalities.
With Cargo Overseas long-term commitment to handling Russian consignments from all over the world we have developed what is a truly multi-modal Russian service into the region. Road / Rail / Air & Sea and combinations of all make up our weekly consolidations as well as our more be-spoke project consignments. The Dipper for a 2800XPC Shovel for a coal mine shown on the right is a perfect case in point. Starting it's journey in the U.S. by Road before being transferred to a vesssel for movement to Russia by Sea before completing it's journey by Rail across Russia.
This 2800xpc Shovel is not the biggest machine we have moved into the region from overseas, that honour goes to the 4100XPC but the challenges remain the same. The bulk of the machine moves ready-assembled with the Cables, Dipper Body, Dipper Handle and parts moving seperately. requiring careful movement under several different modes of transport whilst co-ordinating arrival dates so that the machine can be built and put into production quickly and efficiently.
I found the trip very enjoyable although my lack of Russian in the region can still be a hinderance at times. Seeing these machines which I have personally been involved in moving for numerous years in action at mine sites across the Coal Mining Triangle in Siberia was very interesting. Meeting with our Russian partners and talking to suppliers locally strengthens our knowledge within the region. For our airfreight shipments into Russia I have been to our main transit points, Manchester / London Heathrow / Frankfurt Hahn and Novosibirsk. Talking to airlines about the requirements to ensure our shipments move smoothly and securely through the supply chain and into Siberia with the minimum of fuss.
You could be forgiven for thinking that mining machinery are the only things that Cargo Overseas ships into the region but nothing could be further from the truth. We have exported to Siberia, Wallpaper coverings, Flowers, fire alarm systems and automation control systems. Our latest discussions are to ship treadmills for dogs into central Russia directly from Thailand showing our diverse supply chain off to it's full potential.
Cargo Overseas are proud of our relationships with our partners and customers in Russia and continue to see the region as a mainstay of our core business. Serving project cargo destinations in Africa / Russia & the arctic circle where our expertise comes into it's own.
